Step 22
Now that you have created a new phonebook, you can import a file in one of the following formats: ASCII Comma Delimited or ASCII Tab Delimited (.txt or .csv), Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet (.xls) or Microsoft Access Database format (.mdb). If you do not have an import file ready then you must contact a list provider for one.
NOTE: you can only mix 10-digit local numbers and long distance numbers in the same phonebook if all exchanges for that area code are local. You must also specify the local area codes in Setup > Dialing > Advanced Long Distance Configuration. RapidC will dial all numbers in that area code as 10-digit local numbers. You can also mix 7-digit local numbers and long distance numbers in the same phonebook.
To start the import process click Phonebook then Import, and the Choose File to Import window will appear.
- If the file is on a floppy disk or CD-ROM, insert the disk now. Click the pull-down menu beside Look In and select the appropriate drive; your file should appear in the white area below the Look In field. If you do not see your file, ensure that you have the disk inserted in the drive correctly and that the file is on the disk. If you do see the file, highlight it and click Open.
- If the file is not on a disk, select the file from your hard drive (your C: drive) by highlighting it and clicking Open.
You should now be in the Import File window.

Here is where you map the fields. Use the pull down menus to select the relevant information for each field title (e.g. select the phone number to be displayed beside the Telephone title). If you have extra fields to import, or if your phone number or address are in separate fields, you can click the Show Extended Field Map button to access a more advanced choice of field mapping. To clear a field of information click on the Null button to the right of the field information.

Do not worry about any fields if you do not have information to enter into them. Then click Proceed.
